BACKGROUND:
Since 1996, with the exception of FY2009 and FY2011, Clark County has been the recipient and administrative agent of funding received from the Bureau of Justice (BJA) for the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant and its successor, the Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). These funds have supported various local government agencies and nonprofit organizations in their efforts to undertake criminal prosecution of violent offenders, conduct peer mediation/conflict resolution in the public school system, reduce gang violence, and implement other programs aimed at reducing crime and promoting public safety.
On August 3, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners approved the submission of project recommendations based on a public hearing for the Local Law Enforcement Advisory Committee (LLEAC) that included selected projects for inclusion in the application for the FY 2021-2022 Justice Assistance Grant 15PBJA-21-GG-01708 by Clark County Social Service on behalf of the County, as fiscal agent, and City of Las Vegas, in the amount of $834,481 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and authorized the County Manager or designee to execute any necessary agreements and accept all grant funds awarded.
The Innocence Center of Nevada has advised they will not be utilizing their allocation of $150,000; therefore, staff recommends the reallocation of funds to the following three (3) programs: Vision Theatrical Foundation, Nevada Child Seekers, and Project REAL.
The District Attorney's Office has reviewed and approved this item as to form.
