BACKGROUND:

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has awarded a subgrant to the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner (CCOCME) for reimbursement for the Nevada Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and Sudden Death in the Young (SDY) project.
The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (NVHSS) designated the CCOCME as their bona fide agent to coordinate all Child Death Review (CDR) teams in Nevada to become one of the few states nationwide participating in the SUID and SDY Registry. The program is designed to track all deaths in young persons to identify risk factors and develop and implement strategies aimed at reducing future child deaths.

This subgrant is intended to enhance the existing SUID/SDY surveillance system to comprehensively identify SUID and SDY cases in infants and children and build upon existing CDR programs statewide in Nevada. It would also fund part-time administrative support to assist with managing the program and serving as the state liaison, data collector, and data upload coordinator on child deaths in Nevada. Additionally, funds would be used to purchase supplies such as insulated mailing supplies for bio samples.
Based upon the previous successes of the CCOCME participation in federal and state grant programs, it is recommended that the Board approve the ratification of this subgrant from the Southern Nevada Health District and accept funds awarded on behalf of the CCOCME. This subgrant is now before the Board of County Commission for ratification given CCOCME is a subgrantee of the Southern Nevada Health District who applied for the grant.
The following are the pertinent provisions of the contract:
The term of the contract is from September 30, 2025 through September 29, 2026.
This contract includes the County’s option to terminate with advanced written notice.
