BACKGROUND:

The Clark County Asian-American Pacific Islanders Community Commission (AAPICC) was re-established at the July 16, 2019 Clark County Board of County Commissioners (County Commission) meeting.

The AAPICC first met in October 2019 and has since focused their time and attention on completing the duties outlined in Section 3.64.040 of the Clark County Code (County Code). For the first year, the AAPICC conducted research and provided a report to the County Commission with recommendations to meet the identified needs of the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities in Clark County. Currently, the AAPICC is planning a virtual resource conference and conducting a feasibility study regarding the development of a cultural center. It is anticipated that the AAPICC will complete the remainder of its duties by the close of this fiscal year.

Section 3.64.020 (f) of the County Code provides that the AAPICC expires on June 30, 2021.

Commissioner Segerblom has requested an agenda item to discuss an amendment to Chapter 3.64 of the County Code to modify the duties, composition, financial powers, and annual reporting requirements of the AAPICC. Additionally, an amendment would remove the expiration date of the AAPICC.
