BACKGROUND:

As COVID has caused an unprecedented disruption in our daily lives, Las Vegas Justice Court and the Specialty Court Program have revised numerous and implemented new procedures and technology in an effort to follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's social distancing recommendation. An effect of the pandemic has been a drop in participant levels and substance abuse treatment spending of approximately fifty percent within the Drug Court program between fiscal year 2020 and to date 2021. Conversely, the Veterans Treatment Court program (VTC) participant levels and substance abuse treatment spending have risen by approximately sixty percent. Largely, veterans adhere and adapt to high stress situations and lock downs due to previous military training and combat experience making them better suited to stay within a specialty court program during this time. Overall, the Specialty Court Program is working to retain and grow participation during fiscal year 2021.

The Supreme Court of Nevada, Administrative Office of the Courts has approved the transfer of $50,000 in fiscal year 2021 General Fund appropriation from the Drug Court Enhanced to the VTC budget. Attached hereto are the budget revisions.
