BACKGROUND:
The Moapa Valley Fire Protection District is eligible for grant funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The grant does not require any match and does not require a continuation of employment covered by the grant at the end of the performance period under the grant.
If approved, the grant will be used to purchase PPE, firefighter physicals, EMS training to include EMT-Basic, Advance EMT and Paramedic trainings, Accidental Death and Dismemberment/Workers Compensation/Disability, minor renovations to Fire Station 73, uniforms, volunteer stipends, volunteer awards. Additionally, the grant will fund one (1) part time Program Manager to manage the grant and volunteers onboarding and trainings and also one (1) full time Firefighter/Paramedic who will cover the opposite work week of our Fire Chief. Both positions do not have a requirement for the Moapa Valley Fire Protection District to continue to fund the positions at the end of the performance period of the grant.
If awarded, this grant will provide funding to help with recruit and retention of volunteers and also provide a higher level of service to the greater Moapa Valley Area.
Staff recommends that the Board ratify the submission of the attached grant application and accept any funds awarded.
