BACKGROUND:

On May 21, 2021 the Department of Family Services (DFS) received notification for Grant Request for Application from the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) for the Fund to Assist Former Foster Youth (FAFFY).

DFS has submitted a grant application requesting funds for the purpose of providing aid to youth formerly in foster care who have attained the age of 18 years while in foster care but who have not yet reached the age of 21 years.

If approved, grant funds will allow for the continuation of six (6) full time limited permanent positions. The Sr. Family Services Specialist position will be 50% funded by this grant and 50% funded through a grant received by the Department of Social Services.  Services under this program includes assisting young adults to attain economic self-sufficiency by providing them with resources and services including but not limited to comprehensive case management, housing assistance, employment assistance, educational assistance, transportation assistance,, and other services such as referrals and one-on-one guidance to navigate the transition from foster care into adulthood.

Due to the short timeframe between the grant announcement and submission due date of June 18, 2021, the grant application was submitted to DCFS prior to Board approval.
