BACKGROUND:

On June 4, 2021, Governor Sisolak signed Assembly Bill 280 which requires that any single-stall restroom made available to the public which is contained in a permanent building or facility used by the public, constructed on or after October 1, 2021, be as inclusive and accessible as possible to a person of any gender identity or expression by revising provisions relating to the signage for such single-stall restrooms.  The Bill further required certain governmental agencies to amend their building codes to meet the intent of the Bill, as it relates to single-stall restrooms.

The proposed ordinance will modify the building code to be in alignment with the provisions included in the Bill.

The effective date of the proposed ordinance is October 20, 2021.

Staff recommends a public hearing to be scheduled for October 5, 2021.

The District Attorney’s Office has reviewed and approved as to form.
