BACKGROUND:
Since March 15, 2005, the Clark County Department of Family Services (DFS) has been receiving grant funding from the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) to support monthly caseworker visits.
On August 24, 2021, DFS confirmed with DCFS their intent to grant DFS its yearly grant award for caseworker visits. This item is submitted to the Board of County Commissioners (BOARD) to approve and accept the anticipated award to allow the continuation of caseworker visitation to family homes and children in Out-of-Home Placement and allow the continuation of two (2) part-time Family Service Specialist positions to complete Social Summaries to move youth forward in Permanency. In addition, funds will be used to fund overtime hours for caseworkers to complete required visits outside of their normal shifts.
In prior years, the grant awards for caseworker visits were: FY 21: Grant funds $132,552/Match $46,572; FY 20: Grant funds $124,559/Match $43,764; and FY 19: Grant funds $115,560/Match $40,602.
The award process for this grant differs from the normal grant application process as funding is made available to the state and passed through to DFS without advance notice, competitive process, or application submission.
Staff request the BOARD approve and authorize the anticipated grant award and accept the funds awarded.
