BACKGROUND:

In March 2013, the Board approved an ordinance to transfer the supervision of the Fire Protection Bureau (FPB) to the Building Official.  Associated with the transfer of the reporting structure, the personnel of the FPB were consolidated in the Russell Campus building, providing a location for combined services for the development community.  The physical relocation of the personnel allowed for more direct personnel for the fire inspection personnel and easier coordination between the plan reviewers for both fire prevention and the building department.

Under the proposed ordinance, the supervision and management of the FPB will be transferred back to the Fire Chief.  It is intended, however, that the FPB personnel will continue to be located at the Russell Campus to continue the close coordination with the building department staff and for the convenience of the development community.

The amended ordinance was introduced at the September 21, 2021, Board of County Commissioners' meeting, and a public hearing is scheduled for October 5, 2021 at 10:00am.
