BACKGROUND:
On June 4, 2021, Governor Sisolak signed Assembly Bill 280 which requires that any single-stall restroom made available to the public which is contained in a permanent building or facility used by the public, constructed on or after October 1, 2021, be as inclusive and accessible as possible to a person of any gender identity or expression by revising provisions relating to the signage for such single-stall restrooms. The Bill further required certain governmental agencies to amend their building codes to meet the intent of the Bill, as it relates to single-stall restrooms.
The proposed ordinance will modify the building code to be in alignment with the provisions included in the Bill.
On September 21, 2021, the Board considered and approved the Business Impact Statement in accordance with NRS 237.090.
The amended ordinance was introduced at the September 21, 2021, Board of County Commissioners' meeting, and a public hearing is scheduled for October 5, 2021 at 10:00am.
