BACKGROUND:
The claim is a result of a motor vehicle accident on August 7, 2020, whereby the left front part of the County vehicle struck the right side of Mr. James Merriweather’s vehicle, as the County vehicle pulled away from the curb to drive northbound on Grand Canyon. Mr. Merriweather’s total property damage was $12,400.07; and the total amount of Mr. Merriweather’s medical treatment is at $47,760.94.Through negotiations with legal counsel for the claimant, the claimant has agreed to accept $70,000.00 in settlement of the bodily injury claim to avoid any further costs and legal expenses of possible litigation in this case. If the settlement is approved, the County would also avoid costs and expenses of any future litigation.The proposed settlement has been reviewed and approved by the Civil Division of the District Attorney’s Office and the Clark County Liability Pool Committee members.
