BACKGROUND:

Pursuant to Nevada Revised Statute 245.710, if a vacancy is declared in any county or township office, except the offices of district judge and county commissioner, the board of commissioners shall appoint a suitable person who is an elector of the county to fill the vacancy until the first Monday of January after the next ensuing biennial election.

Las Vegas Township Department 10 has a vacancy as a result of Judge Melanie Tobiasson’s resignation.

The eight-member Committee appointed by the County Manager and consisting of seven individuals representing the legal community and the Chief Justice of the Nevada State Supreme Court, met on two occasions in public session.  From a field of fourteen applicants, one withdrew from consideration and six were interviewed.  The candidates emerging from the final interview process with a unanimous vote for further consideration by the Board of County Commissioners are:

                     Cybill Dotson, Qualey Law Group
Nadia Hojjat, Clark County Public Defender’s Office
Katrina Ross, Clark County Public Defender’s Office
