BACKGROUND:

FM Global is currently accepting grant applications for the 2021 FM Global Fire Prevention Grant Program.  The purpose of this funding is to provide financial support to organizations working to combat fire. Through the FM Global Fire Prevention Grant Program, fire departments and brigades, as well as national, state, regional, local and community organizations can apply for funding to support a wide array of fire prevention, preparedness and control efforts, including pre-incident planning, fire prevention education/training and arson prevent/fire investigation.

The Clark County Fire Department Investigation Division would like to take this opportunity to request equipment valuing $5,600.00 in the application as follows:  Four (4) Dell XPS 15 laptops which will be provided to the on-duty shift Fire Investigators (2), the day shift Fire Investigator (1) and the Assistant Fire Chief, Fire Investigation Division (1). This funding is needed to further support the investigation, arrest, and processing of suspects in arson crimes. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Clark County Detention Center (CCDC) has removed common computers, hindering the timely completion of arresting documents. Additionally, due to the seriousness of the COVID-19 virus, these laptops will enable Fire Investigators to complete their documentation with less exposure to the suspects they have arrested.

Staff recommends the Board to approve and authorize the submission of the 2021 FM Global Fire Prevention Grant Program Application.
