BACKGROUND:

In accordance with the Clark County Code 2.07.040, the Board of County Commissioners appoints eleven members to the Department of Family Services (DFS) Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) to offer opinions and recommendations concerning the facilities, services and resources provided by DFS.  The eleven members represent the following groups: court appointed special advocate (1 member); foster and adoptive parent (1 member); local juvenile probation services (1 member); parent advocate (1 member); private provider of mental health care (1 member); Clark County School District (1 member); youth with foster care experience (1 member); general public (2 members); and child welfare advocates (2 members).

The five vacant positions on the CAC are: one general public; one private provider of mental health; one parent advocate; one court appointed special advocate; one court appointed special advocate; and one Clark County School District.  There are three applicants who are qualified individuals.    Shelia Parks, previously appointed to the CAC as a court appointed special advocate member, has requested to be reappointed. Carly Aldis, previously served as a private provider of mental health member, has requested to be reappointed. Staff recommend that Shelia Parks and Carly Aldis be re-appointed in the positions they previously held.

The other qualified individual - Ali Caliendo - has submitted an application to be appointed to the CAC.  Ali Caliendo is qualified to serve on the CAC as a Parent Advocate Member.  Therefore, Staff respectfully recommend that Ali Caliendo be appointed to the CAC as a Parent Advocate member.
