BACKGROUND:

On July 22, 2021, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced the availability of $3 billion in American Rescue Funds for communities across the nation to build back better.  The funds are allocated across six programs, one being the Build Back Better Regional Challenge which offers up to $100 million dollars to communities for accelerating the economic recovery from the pandemic with transformational endeavors.

The LVGEA, as the designated regional economic development authority, established a focused approach and application process that allowed a variety of regional organizations to submit projects for consideration to be included in the final grant application.  After a review of the submitted proposals, a group of community stakeholders identified a slate of transformational projects that they believed worked well together and could move the needle in establishing Southern Nevada as a place for advanced manufacturing.

Clark County submitted two projects to LVGEA for consideration:  Southland Business and Industrial Park along with the newly conceptualized Sloan Industrial and Manufacturing Park.  The Sloan Industrial and Manufacturing Park was selected for inclusion in the final EDA Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant application.

On December 13, 2021, EDA sent notification that Southern Nevada's regional application was selected as 1 of the 60 grant finalists.  Clark County is one of the eight component parts of the Southern Nevada application.  As part of the phase II application process, agencies have been asked to re-affirm their commitment to participate in the grant activities and document the availability of matching funds.
