BACKGROUND:
National distributors of opioids, AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKesson, named as defendants in the multistate opioid litigation, reached a court approved settlement on July 21, 2021. The State of Nevada has agreed to participate in that settlement, which would be binding on local governments within the state. Under this proposed settlement, the State of Nevada will receive $231,679,409 from AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKesson. In a separate court-approved settlement agreement, also dated July 21, 2021, the State of Nevada will receive $53,508,792 from Janssen/Johnson & Johnson. The settlement proceeds will be distributed to local governments in Nevada in accordance with the One Nevada Agreement approved by the Board on August 3, 2021.
