BACKGROUND:

President John F. Kennedy first proclaimed National Public Works Week as an annual reminder of the many ways public works-related services and programs contribute to the nation's overall quality of life.  Since 1960, the American Public Works Association (APWA) has observed National Public Works Week annually to increase the awareness of the public works industry.  Over the years and as evidenced during the recent and ongoing coronavirus epidemic, Public Works agencies have shown their pervasiveness and proven that communities depend daily on public works, and the men and women of the profession are always there and always ready.

Commissioner Gibson would like to present a proclamation to APWA's Nevada Chapter and proclaim the week of May 15-21, 2022 under the theme, "Ready and Resilient" as National Public Works Week in appreciation to the fine people in the public works industry for their hard work and dedication to this community ensuring the health, safety and welfare of our citizens of Nevada.

Jed Wheeler (Southern Nevada Chair) with the APWA will accept the proclamation from the Board of County Commissioners in recognition of National Public Works Week.
