BACKGROUND:

Because the Traffic Division of the Las Vegas Justice Court had been closed for many months due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, a backlog of cases occurred. On December 7, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution joining in the request of the District Attorney for the assistance of the Attorney General and/or for the appointment of a special prosecutor.  The resolution authorized the Office of Appointed Counsel to appoint special prosecutors to help alleviate the backlog through June 30, 2022. This current item would extend the resolution until September 15, 2022, to continue to allow the appointment of special prosecutors to clear the backlog of the traffic cases due to the pandemic.
