BACKGROUND:

On January 18, 2005, NV Energy was awarded an Electrical System Franchise Agreement that was set to expire on January 18, 2020. NV Energy has requested a one-time, five-year extension pursuant to Section 5.01.070 of the County Code. On January 18, 2022, the Board approved a six-month extension to allow sufficient time to finalize the five-year extension agreement. County staff has been working on language for a new Electrical System Franchise Extension Agreement and is near completion of a draft.

In order to provide adequate time for discussions with NV Energy, staff is recommending that the current agreement be extended for an additional three months or until a subsequent extension agreement is approved by the Board, whichever occurs first.
