BACKGROUND:

At the Board of County Commissioner’s meeting on March 22, 2022, the County Finance Department presented a brief report on the current Fiscal Year’s (2022) financial status and the proposed Fiscal Year (2023) General Fund Budget.   The Finance Department presented several factors contributing to resources that could be used to fund supplemental full-time County positions and new or expanded programs.

County departments were asked to evaluate their need for additional staffing and/or program enhancements.  Departments submitted requests and justification for 674 positions at a cost of $65.2 million.  The County’s senior management team has reviewed the requests and identified 258 General Fund and 123 Non-General Funded positions that are deemed necessary for County operations.  73 of the 258 General Fund positions are considered required positions to staff newly constructed County facilities, an additional department of the Las Vegas Justice Court, as well as a variety of unfunded mandates from the 81st (2021) legislature.
