BACKGROUND:

Whenever a justice of the peace is disqualified from acting in a case pending in the justices’ court or is unable to perform their official duties because of temporary sickness, absence, or other cause, they may appoint a person from a panel of substitute Justice of the Peace or invite another Justice of the Peace to act in their place.

The Board is authorized, per NRS 4.032, to select a number of persons it determines appropriate to comprise a panel of substitute Justices of the Peace.  The selected individuals must possess the qualifications set forth in NRS 4.010 for the Office of Justice of the Peace in Clark County.

At its November 17, 2020, Board of County Commissioners’ meeting, the Board approved a panel of Justices of the Peace Pro Tempore for January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2022.  It is requested that the Board add Curtis Brown, Douglas Hedger, Trent Richards and Allison Schmidt to the panel effective through December 31, 2022.

Each Justice Court may make separate recommendations to the Board for those individuals it would like to have approved for panel membership.  Once an individual is approved, that individual may serve in any Justice Courts located in Clark County for which the panelist is qualified pursuant to NRS 4.010.
