BACKGROUND:

Melvin Ennis, who passed away on September 22, 2021, worked for Clark County (County) Parks & Recreation as a supervisor for over 28 years and retired in August 2020.  He served as a Board Member of the Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County and dedicated his time to the Gang Intervention Team.  Melvin Ennis was honored and received proclamation for his dedication to Clark County, City of Las Vegas, and North Las Vegas Community whereas April 2, 2016, is now recognized as Melvin “Beetle” Ennis Day.

Clark County Parks & Recreation, on behalf of Commissioner McCurdy, is requesting consideration of naming the newly constructed ±4,200 square foot modular building located in Von Tobel Park at 2436 North Pecos Road, Las Vegas, NV, 89115 in his honor.  The proposed name across the front of the building would be "Melvin Ennis Recreation Center at Von Tobel Park."  This request has been reviewed and is in conformance with Clark County's adopted Naming Policy dated December 16, 2014.

This item was presented to the County's Long Range Planning Committee on August 24, 2022.
