BACKGROUND:

On April 6, 2021, the Board of County Commissioners authorized an interlocal contract from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023 to support the State’s supplemental Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) program for hospitals that serve a disproportionate share of uninsured, indigent, and Medicaid patients pursuant to NRS 422.382.  This contract is intended to facilitate a means by which funds allocated by the County for indigent services can be combined with federal matching funds for persons eligible for Medicaid or other indigent individuals in Nevada.  Due to the expansion of Medicaid, the cost of the DSH program far exceed the benefits to the County and University Medical Center.

The amendment will limit the County contribution to the amount collected from 1 cent on each $100 of assessed valuation of all taxable property in the county pursuant to NRS 428.285 effective July 1, 2022 and will extend the term through June 30, 2025.
