BACKGROUND:

At the August 6, 2019, Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting, the Board requested an agenda item to discuss designating a portion of Decatur Boulevard in unincorporated Clark County to be known as "Little Ethiopia."  At that time, the Board directed staff to develop policy for a cultural district.

At the September 17, 2019, BCC meeting, the Board approved the first version of the Clark County Cultural District Designation Policy.

At its December 17, 2019, BCC meeting, representatives of the Ethiopian community presented to the Board.  The recommendation was to allow the Little Ethiopia application to move forward.

At its August 3, 2021, BCC meeting, the Board approved the updates to the Clark County Cultural District Designation Policy.

On February 1, 2023, the Little Ethiopia community submitted an updated application with the proposed boundaries as directed by staff.

On April 10, 2023, postcards were mailed to 1,701 property and business owners within the proposed Cultural District.  The postcards had the meeting information for both Spring Valley and Paradise Town Advisory Boards, along with the BCC meeting on May 16.

On April 25, 2023, representatives of the Ethiopian community presented to the Spring Valley and Paradise Town Advisory Boards.

Following the presentation from the Ethiopian community, the Board may direct staff to prepare a resolution designating the "Little Ethiopia" Cultural District.
