BACKGROUND:

Assembly Bill 266 was passed by the Nevada Legislature and approved by the Governor on June 15, 2023. Section 3 of the bill requires the Board of County Commissioners to designate one or more employees of the County to be responsible for developing and biennially revising a language access plan for the County meeting the requirements set forth in the bill. The Board must solicit public comment on this plan and the plan must be submitted to the Office of New Americans in the Office of the Governor on or before August 1 of each even-numbered year.

The County Manager will designate one or more employees to be responsible for development of this plan and compliance with the bill mandates. Staff will bring a future agenda item to report on the team's progress and proposed plan for public comment, with sufficient time for review and for possible consideration of any additional funding necessary to meet the needs of residents with limited English proficiency pursuant to the mandate in Section 3, subsection 4 of the bill.
