BACKGROUND:

The U. S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) funding supports cross-system collaboration to improve public safety responses and outcomes for individuals with mental health disorders or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. The FY24 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program grant period is 36 months, requires a two-phase process consisting of planning (up to twelve months long), and implementation activities (up to twenty-four months) during which grantees will develop a coordinated approach to implementing or enhancing services for individuals with mental health disorders or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders who come in contact with the criminal justice system.

The Las Vegas Justice Court Mental Health Court would be applying for the FY24 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program to fund one full time grant-funded Specialty Courts Specialist, provide substance use disorder treatment, sober living, wrap around services, and supervision to at least 16 participants over the 36-month grant period. The period of the grant, if awarded, will be from October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2027.
