BACKGROUND:

Henderson’s first postmaster, Harold Baldwin, dedicated the building on Jan. 10, 1944. At the dedication, Baldwin, who was also a Basic Magnesium Incorporated employee, announced the city's official name change from Basic Townsite to Henderson in honor of former U.S. Sen. Charles Henderson (D-NV, 1918-21). The city outgrew the original post office and in 1967 broke ground for a new one on Market Street. A Wells Fargo Bank branch now stands on the site of the first post office.

The Clark County Museum's mission is to collect and preserve the history and natural history of Southern Nevada
and present that history through exhibits and educational programs. Acceptance of this donation will add this
artifact to the collection in perpetuity and can be used in exhibits and educational programs in which the public can learn about various topic about the growth and development of our community.

The Department of Parks and Recreation appreciates the generosity of its donors and recommends acceptance of donations.
