BACKGROUND:

Moapa Valley Fire Protection District (District) operates a Volunteer Fire Department organized pursuant to NRS 474.460.  The District provides fire suppression and Emergency Medical Services within a defined area comprised primarily of Moapa, Overton, and Logandale.

NRS 474.460 establishes that the District is a political subdivision of the State and as such, may enter into an interlocal agreement with other governmental entities to provide governmental services.  On August 6, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners (also sitting as the Moapa Valley Fire Protection District Board of Fire Commissioners) approved an interlocal agreement wherein Clark County may provide assistance with certain administrative functions, while the District is expected to be self-sufficient in all matters pertaining to the provision of Emergency Medical Services as outline in NRS 450B, relieving the Clark County Fire Department from responsibility in delivering services or oversight of services as outlined in NRS450B.
