BACKGROUND:
On September 10, 2026, the Office of Sports and Special Events met with CFP Host Committee regarding the special event, College Football Playoff Championship, scheduled for January 22-25, 2027, at 3150 Paradise Rd Las Vegas, NV 89109 (Las Vegas Convention Center), 4400 Koval Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (Grand Prix Plaza), 333 Al Davis Way, Las Vegas, NV 89118 (Allegiant Stadium), and on Las Vegas Blvd S near the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign.
The special event will feature a marathon (2500 participants projected) along Las Vegas Boulevard S near the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign on January 24, 2027, fan activations January 22-24, 2027, at Las Vegas Convention Center and Grand Prix Plaza, and the CFP Championship game at Allegiant Stadium on January 25, 2027. Game attendance is expected to be approximately 65,000 spectators. Traffic controls are expected near every event activation, with the closure of sections of Las Vegas Blvd near the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign There will also be full closures of the Hacienda Ramp over Interstate 15 (January 18-27, 2027), from Luxor Dr to Polaris Ave, Polaris Ave from Hacienda Ave to Russell Rd, and one-way traffic on Dean Martin Dr between Tropicana Ave and Oquendo Rd. Event construction is scheduled to begin on January 18, 2027, with completion of event breakdown anticipated by January 28, 2027.
Under Clark County Code 2.70.050(E), an applicant for a Special Event Preliminary Approval may be required to appear before the Board for a public hearing under certain conditions. A public hearing is required for this application because the event will require a road closure of the Las Vegas Boulevard and/or will have significant impact on the roadways adjacent to Las Vegas Boulevard. Due to the marathon, this Special Event also has the potential to cause disorder, disturbances, excessive loitering, nuisances at or near Las Vegas Boulevard.
Staff recommend that the Board consider whether to approve or deny the CFP Host Committee request for preliminary approval, and if approved, whether any conditions should apply.
